General
J. Zachary Bedford is an accomplished entrepreneur and corporate
executive with 30 years of leadership and management experience
in the engineering, construction
and facilities management industry…working in the private sector, the
government and in the armed services.
Client Services Mr. Bedford is the founder
of MacDonald-Bedford and serves as its President and Chief Executive Officer.
He serves as the Principal-in-Charge
for MacDonald-Bedford’s largest contracts and assists with community liaison
and public relations.
Experience
He has served as President of a project and construction management
firm, Chief Operating Officer for an engineering design and environmental services
firm and
Vice-President of a geotechnical and environmental services firm. In a number
of non-engineering organizations, Mr. Bedford served as the Director of Engineering,
overseeing master planning, facilities management and contract management for
outsourced services. Additionally, Mr. Bedford was Director of an Army engineering
and environmental laboratory.
Prior to the executive suite, Mr. Bedford independently managed
project teams through complex programs and projects of all phases,
from preliminary planning
and programming through commissioning and start-up. These organizations varied
in size from a handful up to several hundred and with budgets exceeding $100
million annually. These include a variety of facilities and infrastructure
projects: buildings, roadways, airfields, flood control systems
and coastal protection – most
having major environmental considerations. For several years he served as the
Chief of Project Management for the renovation of the Pentagon, a multi-billion
dollar program.
Character
Mr. Bedford is known for his integrity, vision, drive, ability
to deliver and
a passion for developing people as well as the organization. Strongly skilled
in problem solving, communications, functional integration and team building,
he brings an excellent blend of human, conceptual and technical skills to the
executive suite.
Credentials
Mr. Bedford has a Bachelor of Engineering from Vanderbilt University,
a Masters of Engineering from the University of Florida and is
an elected member of Tau
Beta Pi, The National Engineering Honor Society. He became one of the earlier
individuals (1992) to become certified as a Project Management Professional
(PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI). Presently, he
teaches Project Risk
Management in the International Diplomas Program at UC Berkeley. Mr. Bedford
is a retired Army Reserve Engineer Officer, a graduate of the Command and General
Staff College and a former instructor of the Army’s Combined Arms Services
Staff School – the Army’s management course for mid-career officers.
