James Andrews
Project Electrical Engineer

James Andrews is an electrical engineer with over 25 years of problem-solving and management experience in the electrical power industry, including the industrial, commercial, government, and utility areas. His solid background includes a thorough understanding of electrical transmission, distribution, metering, and control.

Client Services For MacDonald-Bedford’s clients, Mr. Andrews acts as the Project Electrical Engineer and has the responsibility of assisting with the design and implementation of the Project Management Plan. For both MacDonald-Bedford and for our clients, he will also interface with the necessary architects, engineers, contractors, and governmental agencies to deliver the stated results according to plan.

Mr. Andrews has worked as a managing partner and participated in several diverse electrical and financial engineering ventures. This work has included comprehensive energy management studies, rate analysis and contracts, load flow profiles, alternative energy sources, and Biomedical Studies identifying EMF (Electric and Magnetic Field) profiles of new and existing electrical power lines. He has also served as an expert witness on product liability cases in Silicon Valley, CA. involving electrical fatalities.

As a senior manager for a global Fortune 100 Electrical Manufacturer, he successfully initiated and implemented strategies and plans for solving specific client electrical protection and power quality problems at a wide variety of enterprises in the Western US, Canada, and Mexico. These included extensive, collaborative efforts at companies such as Fluke Mfg., Boeing, MGM-Mirage Properties, Disney, Emerson, BART, City of Seattle, City of SF, State of Ca., etc. He has trained and instructed electrical engineers in over-current protection techniques and the proper use of electrical coordination at major engineering design firms such as Bechtel, URS, Fluor-Daniels, and Jacobs.

He also has several years of experience as a Design Engineer, Operations Manager and Power Services Engineer with FP&L, Florida’s largest investor owned utility.

Well known and highly respected in his field, Mr. Andrews has a solid understanding of both technical and financial issues affecting electrical design and he has the ability to communicate complex concepts in a straightforward and concise manner. By listening carefully to his client’s issues and concerns, he is able to maintain a “big picture” focus and develop creative strategies that maximum client satisfaction.

Mr. Andrews obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida. His professional affiliations include the IEEE/PES (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers/Power Engineering Society). He has served as a Director for the Pacific NW Electric League, and has also served on the Board of NEMA’s (National Electrical Manufacturer’s Assn.) Western Council. In addition, he was an instructor for the very effective “Kepner-Tregoe” Problem Solving Courses.
